Entry #10: He Had it Comin

A passion of mine would be Broadway shows. They're just so extravagant, loud, sad, amazing, and breathtaking. I have loved theatre since I joined the club my high school had. Recently my sister, who also loves theatre and musicals, and I saved up money to go see a Broadway show! That show was called Chicago.

Chicago takes place in a 1920's speakeasy. A woman murders a man she is having an affair with because he wants to end the affair. She lies to a detective and blames her husband for the murder. The detective realizes that she lied and she gets sent to jail. While awaiting her trial for her sentence, she stays in jail and the speakeasy when she meets another woman named Velma. Velma also killed her husband and needs to stay relevant in the newspapers in order to win her trial. They go head-to-head in this jazzy musical. Also, it's not family friendly so, don't take your kids.

This musical was amazing! The stage production, the lighting, the actors/actresses, the costumes, the dancing, and they had a live band! Ugh! It was phenomenal. My sister and I went to the Arizona Broadway Theatre. This company does, for an extra cost, a dinner theatre, which we chose to do. The tickets cost just under $100 (which we saved for a while) but for a dinner and a show it was well worth it. The picture above is a photo of the set design when you first walked in!

One of my favorite songs from this musical is called "Cell Block Tango". It is a song about six women, who are all in jail for "murdering" their husbands. You learn how each of the women "murdered" their husbands and how they didn't do it and how he "had it comin". The dancing, music and storyline that is presented in this song is fabulous and hilarious at the same time.

I would 1000% recommend this to anyone who is even thinking about seeing a Broadway show! Unfortunately, the Arizona Broadway Theatre changes their shows every once in a while, so Chicago is no longer available, but I promise that no matter what you see it will be an amazing memory!

Let me know what your favorite musicals are or ones that you have seen in person!!

  1. Oh my goodness you are so lucky to have seen a Broadway show I have always wanted to ever since I was little. I really should start saving up my money. I get what you mean about the feeling like when I watch a musical on T.V. you sing along and you feel happy, but when I see plays in person it is a whole different story. You feel like you are actually being told a story and you are there to see the whole thing. When the singers sing with their beautiful voices it is just so moving and touching. I am sure though if I went to a Broadway show it would be so much better than regular plays and so much more story line. Chicago sounds like a really funny and cool play I really hope I get to see it some time. Thank you for sharing this with us!

  2. Okay before I even begin to read what you wrote I just want to say I LOVE your blog page. The colors, the pictures, the font, makes me feel like I'm basic and bland no flavor. Haha but oh wow I have been thinking about watching shows or movies like this, so thank you for the recommendation!
