Entry #2: The Haunting of Hill House

Netflix has made many new movies or television series' which have blown up over the past couple of years. These are called "Netflix Originals". Some of which are Orange is the New Black, 13 Reasons Why,  or  The Punisher. Netflix has continually produced so many phenomenal shows and movies, with amazing actors/actresses, to keep its fans raving. A fairly recent series they just released called The Haunting of Hill House has caught many horror fanatic's eyes. It's about five children that grow up in a haunted house that torments them through their childhood, but many years later when all of them grow up and move out, they must recollect after the house takes the life of the youngest child.

 (Spoilers!)

The Haunting of Hill House  was released in October of 2018 and only has ten episodes. The first couple of episodes are based around each character, mainly the five children, the parents, and the house. Each episode follows the character in their present life and their childhood in the house as it cuts back and forth. It opens with the mother of the family committed suicide inside the house, which caused the father to wake his kids up in the middle of the night and retreat to a nearby hotel, where he left his kids and went back for his wife. After all of the children have grown up and moved onto their own lives, the house calls to the youngest child, where she then decides to commit suicide as well. This is how the story begins.

The first episode is about the oldest brother, his name is Steven. Now being the oldest, he had more of an understanding of what was going on when his father rushed him and his siblings out of the house. He believes his mother is crazy and doesn't agree with the fact that ghosts are what took his mother. The whole first episode is a trip down memory lane because Steven see's his younger brother Luke, who is out of rehab and from the looks of it, it isn't helping. Luke is seen stealing his expensive equipment out of his apartment for what seems like drugs. At the end of the episode Steven is standing in his apartment and he gets a call from his father. He seems distraught and upset as he is trying to tell him something. As Steven is cleaning his apartment, he turns around to see Nellie, his sister who has just committed suicide and is now dead. Then his father tells him that Nellie hung herself in the house, just like his mother. Then she screams at Steven, the lights flicker, and she disappears. The episode title was "Steven Sees A Ghost". CHILLS.

Now lets get to Luks's point of view. In Luke's episode he attempts to call his siblings into telling them that he received his 30 day chip in rehab, but none of them answer. Luke stays in rehab, until one night he is woken up from his sleep at 12:03 a.m. Now this is a random time but later in the series you find out that that is the exact time that Nellie, his twin sister, killed herself in the house. He attempts to call any of his siblings to see if she it okay, but again none of them answer. He leaves rehab in an attempt to get home and see if Nellie is okay, it's a twin thing. Having no money he decides to visit his brother Steven, but he all of a sudden comes down with something. He says that he is cold and that his joints are freezing, that he feels stiff, but Steven doesn't believe him because he is out or rehab and thinks he is using again. So Steven gives him money and lets him leave. The reason Luke feels this way is because he is so connected to his twin sister Nellie, he is feeling the effects of death when she killed herself! But he doesn't know about Nellie so he can't describe what he is feeling!

Another cool thing this series did is incorporate hidden ghosts into each episode. That's right! As you're mindlessly watching this series, there's over 30 perfectly hidden ghosts. Personally, I couldn't find them all, even after re-watching it, but you can just watch this video where they do find them all.

I won't go into every theory I have because this would be a looooong blog, but I will share one. I was talking to my sister about this and she thinks that the ghosts of Hill House and everything that this family experienced wasn't real. WHAT!? But get this, everyone in the town thought their father was crazy because he went to the police that night and told them that his wife was murdered, but when they went to investigate, it looked like a suicide. Steven didn't believe his father either! It would make sense and become a crazy argument, but you can watch it and decide for yourself.

I would soooooo recommend this to anyone who thinks that they are kind of interested in watching it. Please leave comments about your theories below and whether or not you want to watch it!
